Quick reference for events
Baseline: 1 unit per 50 guests for a 4-hour event. Add 15% for alcohol service. Add 15% if the guest list skews majority female. Scale by duration: 6 hours +20%, 8 hours +35%, all-day +50%. Always include at least one ADA unit per event, and one hand-wash station per 4 standard units (more for food events).
Worked example: 200-guest wedding, 5 hours, full bar
200 รท 50 = 4 units baseline. +15% for alcohol = 4.6. +20% for 5-hour duration = 5.5. Round up to 6 standard units, plus 1 ADA unit, plus 2 hand-wash stations. Or: 2-stall luxury trailer + 1 ADA unit + 2 hand-wash stations, which is the more common choice for weddings at this scale.
Worked example: 500-attendee 5K run, 3 hours
500 รท 50 = 10 units baseline at 4 hours. Scale down slightly for 3-hour duration: ~9 units. Add 1 ADA unit, 2 hand-wash stations. Stage at start/finish chute, water-stop areas, and post-race expo. Pre-event top-off the morning of.
Worked example: 5,000-attendee one-day festival
5,000 รท 50 = 100 baseline at 4 hours. Scale up for 8-hour all-day event: ~135 units. Add 5โ7 ADA units (1 per 20). Add 25โ30 hand-wash stations. Distribute across 4โ6 restroom areas keyed to the venue map. Schedule on-site service technician for continuous mid-event servicing.
Quick reference for Cal/OSHA construction
1 toilet for 1โ20 workers, 2 for 21โ35, 3 for 36โ55, 4 for 56โ80, +1 per additional 30 workers. Plus a hand-wash station wherever running water is not available. Count everyone on site at one time โ your crew plus all subs.
Worked example: residential framing, 12-person crew
12 workers = 1 toilet required. Add a hand-wash station. Weekly servicing covers a 5-person crew on one unit; with 12 people on the same unit, bump to twice-weekly to keep the unit usable and inspector-ready.
Worked example: commercial tilt-up, 45-person peak crew
45 workers = 3 toilets required by Cal/OSHA. Add 2 hand-wash stations. Schedule three-times-weekly service for the heavy phases (foundation + framing) and downshift to weekly for finish trades.
Worked example: multifamily project, 90-person peak crew
90 workers = 4 toilets per ยง1526 (1โ80 is 4 toilets, +1 per 30 over 80 โ still 4 at 90; add a 5th at 111). Add 2โ3 hand-wash stations. Daily servicing during peak phases; weekly during start-up and final trim.
